Just incase you were wondering how much time and detail goes into every single aspect of this project, here you go. Fortunately we were able to get a secret mic near the piano whilst Gabrielle jammed. Pretty sure we used a SM58? It wasn't too special, everything was running into a mixer and then to our capturing VCR. We went through so many versions of this thumbnail- It was snowing like a motherfucker outside- rare in Nashville, Gabi had made some chili, the only thing left to do was jam. Jam the keys or jam the videos... Jamming is the most important thing one can do!
What is jamming? The fuckin dictionary defines it as "improvise with other musicians, especially in jazz or blues."
Very true but a limited definition. For now we would say- Jamming is creating and reacting creatively in any present moment, free of consciousness and one with a moment.
Sounds like some pretentious horse shit I know dude. BUT if you have ever been lost in the process of anything, you have probably entered into a flow state of consciousness. When your body and mind reach a sort of meditative state, and you do something that is beyond your limited focused. This is how ideas are made! How you're able to speak without thinking of what you're going to say before you say it. The idea is to practice till it's natural, and let nature take over. Stop thinking and you'll have access to that beautiful special energy that makes us all one!
It is actually possible to jam anything. If you can relate your jam muscle to life, welcome to the world of harmony! We're still working on how to really do that. The exploration has led us down some wild creative rabbit holes. What we have learned so far: intent and emotion can be captured in any medium when you're in the jam state. Recording any sound is capturing a moment. Recording and layering multiple moments, or "tracks" can increase the fidelity of these emotions. Taking a more disciplined approach to this idea, we have begun to meditate on certain emotions, feelings, and ideas that are in-tune to the moment when we record. Empathetic Joy, Compassion, Love, and the spirit of music and creativity are among these focal points. They're easier to infuse into a moment because these emotional concepts are very powerful. Certain tracks we might focus on other feelings such as lust or loss to get the point of the song across. However, it is imperative to be experiencing these emotions in the moment, in the heart and in the head while also experiencing music in that unconscious present state. Sounds like a lot to balance, but it's really just a lot of words to describe putting your honest raw balls into whatever moment you happen to be in. If you can juice that moment with the appropriate emotion, well you're creating a door for someone to experience that honesty right there with you!
That is the best way I can describe the feeling when art communicates that weird ass unspoken thing. We experience moments like this all the time.
Have you ever walked into a room and you know the person in that room is pissed off even before you make eye contact? Their emotions have taken over the whole room to the point where you can physically sense the tension!
